Experience Matters
Since the 80's, the SC Group professionals have been helping parents research and manage treatment at therapeutic schools and residential programs. In 2018, Scott formed The SC Group, merging his practice with Dr Solochek's. The combined experience of Scott Canter, as a program specialist and therapeutic consultant and Dr. Teri Solochek, as a licensed psychologist (PSY11869) is unmatched in the industry and why for decades, parents and professionals have relied on The SC Group team to manage treatment and crises for children, adolescents and young adults.
Scott Canter began his career in 1987 working with teens as a direct care staff at a therapeutic boarding school. Scott ran groups, provided counseling, taught classes and facilitated adventure treatment at the boarding school in Southern California. Over the next 20 years Scott worked at therapeutic schools, residential treatment centers and adventure programs. He was materially involved in developing programs in New York, North Carolina and Texas. As the National Director for a treatment corporation he supported the acquisition of programs in Montana, North Carolina, Oregon and Utah.
In 2009, after more than two decades "on the ground" Scott joined a private consulting firm, establishing their office in Dallas, TX, where he began working directly with families as a private case manager and therapeutic consultant. During his tenure as the firm's Managing Director, Scott supervised a team of therapeutic and college consultants in Atlanta, Austin and Dallas. Scott works with clients nationwide.

Together, we will engage in “Criteria Driven Research” to quickly identify the best "level of care." We collaborate with your professional team to gather their clinical criteria, build a plan and implement solutions. We will navigate choices together and implement at your pace.
No schools, programs or specialists are ever considered unless a consultant has personally visited and/or has a direct relationship. The team at the SC Group has been visiting schools and programs for over four decades and maintains a network of trusted resources.
Once a student admits into a school or program, our team will monitor their progress and be available to connect with you.
We promise to be there for you through every step of your journey. We promise to educate and empower you, so that "you" can make the best decisions for your family.
The SC Group does NOT accept any commissions, payments, kickbacks, percentage or fees of any kind from schools, programs or professionals for placing students into treatment.
Our compensation comes from clients. We work for you!
Our focus in therapeutic placement matches students with options based on the criteria identified during our research process.
The SC Group works with licensed and/or accredited schools and programs. The team is highly skeptical of schools that are located outside the USA, as students rights may be limited and staff qualifications questionable and will not endorse these options. Treatment centers are highly scrutinized to ensure they employ licensed therapists, psychologists and certified teachers.
Parent are strongly encouraged to visit options recommended. It is also suggested that while touring they meet students, eat lunch with the student body, see dorms, sit in a class and tour all of the facility. It is recommended that they speak with other active and previous parents.
Parents are also encouraged to travel with their child (and young adults) when admitting/enrolling into a therapeutic school or program
During a crisis, our focus is to quickly stabilize the situation.
Intervention-Assessment programs are typically 30-90 days and provide parents with a thorough understanding of the underlying reasons for behavior and recommendations for next steps.
A trap many parents fall into is admitting a child directly into long-term residential treatment and inadvertently place their child into a higher level of care than is clinically warranted.
We believe in using psychological testing and criteria from local psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists to support parents in making decisions based on treating the underlying issues, not simply addressing surface behavior. This approach allows parents to make researched decisions based on treatment criteria, not crisis.
Our clients have unlimited access to their service provider. Many times, our clients just want to talk. In a crisis, sometimes they need to connect daily. It shouldn’t cost extra to connect. Our approach ensures that you have access when you want it.
We believe that ongoing monitoring and parent support are key to treatment success.
Scott has almost 40 years of experience “on-the-ground” at schools/programs and having toured hundreds of facilities, his expertise includes long-term relationships with key personnel to assist in managing treatment and supporting parents.
